Cumberland Farms parent EG America rolls out device trade-in kiosks
Convenience store giant EG America is giving customers a new way to recycle used smart devices - and make a little money in the process.
The company, operator of convenience-store chains including Certified Oil, Cumberland Farms, Kwik Shop, and Tom Thumb is deploying ecoATM mobile device trade-in kiosks in select stores.
Using the kiosks, customers can securely turn in their mobile devices, regardless of condition, in minutes. The kiosks examine, grade, and price each device, and if the customer accepts the price, payment is dispensed and the device is then refurbished or recycled.
"This partnership allows our customers to easily and sustainably turn in their old and used devices and be compensated instantly," said Nick Unkovic, chief transformation & strategy officer, EG America. "We’re committed to finding new and innovative ways to differentiate our stores while also providing value and convenience to our customers, and ecoATM’s trade-in kiosks do just that."
EG America began adding kiosks to stores in early 2025, with initial installations in four banners across nine states, and plans to install upwards of 500 kiosks across its stores.

"We’re excited to partner with EG America and see our kiosks in convenience stores for the first time," said Neil Fried, senior VP, corporate development, ecoATM Gazelle. "With more than 50 million devices collected so far – reducing greenhouse gas emissions similar to removing over 3,300 cars from the road per year – we are expanding rapidly and thrilled to drive our mission of building a sustainable future by eliminating e-waste one device at a time."
In another automated in-store recycling initiative that rewards customers, fashion retailer H&M features "smart" recycling bins that house a digital scale and feature integrated digital screens.
As shoppers deposit their bag of unwanted clothing into the bin, the integrated scale tallies the donation while the digital screen displays the weight of the donation and then provides a QR code that customers can scan for a 15% discount coupon for a future purchase in-store or online.
EG America operates 1,500 retail locations across the U.S. under the Certified Oil, Cumberland Farms, Fastrac, Kwik Shop, Loaf N’ Jug, Minit Mart, Quik Stop, Sprint Food Stores, Tom Thumb and Turkey Hill banners. EG America is owned by EG Group, a UK-based fuel station and convenience store retailer operating across the U.K. & Ireland, Europe, Australia and the U.S.
