DoorDash acquires U.K. delivery app, U.S. hospitality tech firm

DoorDash is purchasing Deliveroo and SevenRooms.

DoorDash is making two significant purchases that expand its geographic delivery capability, as well its range of services.

The on-demand delivery platform has reached agreements to acquire U.K. delivery app Deliveroo and New York City-based hospitality technology provider SevenRooms. Details of each transaction follow.

Deliveroo

Launched as a delivery app in 2013, Deliveroo competes in the U.K. with Uber Eats and other on-demand food delivery services. The company, which went public in 2021 and has seen its share valuation drop by more than 50% since its IPO, received a significant investment from Amazon in 2019. Amazon still owns roughly 14% of Deliveroo’s stock.

According to CNBC, Deliveroo has agreed to accept a $3.9 billion buyout offer from DoorDash, which represents a roughly 44% premium from Deliveroo’s closing stock value on April 4, 2025, the day before DoorDash sent the company an official offer letter. It is uncertain whether Amazon will accept the buyout for its shares.

This acquisition gives DoorDash a delivery presence in the U.K. as well as new or expanded capabilities in France, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar.

DoorDash has been following a long-term strategy of global growth. In June 2022, the company acquired Finland-based online delivery platform Wolt Enterprises Oy, bringing DoorDash operations to a total of 27 countries (it now operates in more than 30), including the U.S., and made DoorDash one of the largest online food delivery companies in the world outside of China.

“Our mission at DoorDash is to grow and empower local economies,” said Tony Xu, CEO and co-founder of DoorDash. “Our focus ever since has been on building the best products and services to enable merchants to grow, connecting them with consumers in their neighborhoods, and creating a local commerce platform that offers uniquely flexible earnings opportunities.”

SevenRooms

By acquiring SevenRooms for $1.2 billion, DoorDash intends to significantly expand the capabilities of the DoorDash Commerce Platform, a set of solutions it released in fall 2024 that is designed to help retailers manage their businesses on their own channels.

SevenRooms delivers tools for marketing, operations, and customer experience, integrated with its CRM capabilities, for restaurants, hotels, and hospitality businesses to deepen customer relationships, streamline operations, and drive revenue growth.

“We’re enhancing the DoorDash Commerce Platform to help merchants serve their customers across all channels," said Parisa Sadrzadeh, VP, strategy and operations at DoorDash. "With SevenRooms, we’re excited to give local businesses around the globe new ways to bring more guests in the door, build and grow direct relationships with their customers, access best-in-class CRM, and drive profitability through smarter marketing.”

The acquisition is expected to close during the second half of 2025, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

DoorDash offers real-time features for retailers

DoorDash also recently released several new products and features designed to help retailers to manage online orders in real-time and connect directly with their customers. They include:

  • Live order management for the Business Manager app - Retailers can confirm orders, adjust prep times, and mark orders ready for pick up.
  • Reimagined tablet experience - Scrollable tickets, enhanced navigation, quick adjustments for prep time, and quick actions directly from the order ticket.
  • Customer chat - Communication tool that enables retailers to contact customers to resolve order issues directly, instead of going through support.
  • Scheduling and stock management - Designed to help reduce kitchen prep times during busy hours, gain better visibility on out-of-stock items, and set special item hours for limited-time offerings.
  • Same day onboarding - Expanded capabilities to enable eligible new participating retailers to go from sign-up to accepting DoorDash orders the same day.

Since its founding in 2013, DoorDash has expanded to over 30 countries.
