McDonald's aims to hire nearly 400,000 workers this summer
McDonald’s has set a big hiring goal for itself.
In its biggest hiring push in years, the quick-serve giant and its franchisees will aim to hire 375,000 new employees across its U.S. restaurants this summer. In Canada, McDonald’s is looking for approximately 20,000 new workers.
The new hiring push comes ahead of the busier summer season, and as the chain is expanding its footprint with 900 new U.S. stores by 2027.
McDonald’s is one of the biggest U.S. private employers. The company estimates that one in eight Americans have worked for the chain at some point in their lives.
“I often think about the time I spent working in our restaurants as a General Manager, and it was immediately clear that crew members are the heart and soul of this brand,” said Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald’s USA. “They go above and beyond to take care of our customers, and it’s our job to take care of and create opportunities for them. When you put on an apron for a shift at McDonald’s, you’re building skills you’ll carry with you for life.”
According to NBC News, Erlinger met with Department of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer at a location just outside of Columbus, Ohio, to announce the hiring initiative.
McDonald’s is also celebrating 10 years of its Archways to Opportunity program. Launched in 2015, McDonald’s and its participating franchisees have invested over $240 million and helped over 90,000 crew members earn their high school diploma, receive college tuition assistance, learn English as a second language, and access education and career advising services.
In a survey conducted by McDonald’s, 80% of Archways to Opportunity participants believed the program created more economic opportunities for them, while 75% said Archways helped them pursue careers in new fields or industries.

“Seventy years as a brand, and ten years into Archways to Opportunity, we’re reminded that one of the greatest impacts we can make is providing access to opportunity,” said Michael Gonda, senior VP and chief impact officer, North America, at McDonald’s. “Behind every counter and drive-thru window is a story of someone building skills, pursuing education, or working towards their future ambition. These stories – in thousands of communities across the country – reinforce that McDonald’s is more than a restaurant: it’s an open door for so many getting their start and a place where potential takes root."
Based in Chicago, McDonald's operates more than 40,000 locations in over 100 countries. Approximately 95% of McDonald's restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent local business owners.
