Walmart Canada hiking pay of hourly and salaried employees
Walmart’s Canadian division is once again raising the wages of its employees.
Walmart Canada is investing an additional C$32.7 million ($23.7 million USD) in pay increases for eligible retail hourly, salaried and health associates. The company says the pay raises underscore the retailer's commitment to being a “competitive, people-led employer” in the Canadian market.
Last year, Walmart Canada invested C$92 million ($68.39 million USD) in pay increases for eligible supply chain employees, as well as retail hourly associates.
"At Walmart Canada, we believe in the power of people. Our associates, the heartbeat of our organization, are key to our success," said Venessa Yates, president and CEO of Walmart Canada. "As we continue to grow, it's our associates who are driving us forward. This investment demonstrates our unwavering commitment to support their growth through higher pay, competitive benefits, and career development programs."
In addition to increased wages, Walmart Canada’s "Total Rewards" package for employees includes an annual bonus aligned with company performance, comprehensive benefit coverage, virtual care and employee assistance programs, a deferred profit-sharing retirement plan and a discounted stock purchase program.
The workforce investments are just one aspect of Walmart Canada’s growth plans. In January, the retailer announced a “landmark” C$6.5 billion (U.S. $4.51 billion) investment over the next five years that includes building dozens of new stores and a new distribution center.
"Our associates are our greatest asset, and investing in good jobs is key to attracting and retaining top talent," said Steve Schrobilgen, chief operations Officer, end to end, at Walmart Canada. "When associates have access to the right tools, meaningful training, and support for their well-being, they can achieve more – for our customers, for themselves and for their futures."
